Introduction
The Rara Lake Trek is a serene Himalayan adventure through one of Nepal’s least-visited and most picturesque regions. The trek offers more than ten days of moderate walking through green hills, undisturbed forests, and traditional villages, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
The journey begins with a panoramic flight from Kathmandu → Nepalgunj → Jumla, passing through warm sub-tropical valleys with unique cultural influences. From Jumla, trekkers head toward Rara Lake, exploring well-tended farm terraces, remote villages, and the rich heritage of the Malla and Thakuri people.
Along the way, trekkers enjoy woodland trails lined with spruce, hemlock, fir, and pine trees, passing historical ruins from the Malla period. The route climbs gradually to Daphe Lagna Pass (3,685 m), offering breathtaking views of Api and Shaipal peaks.
The trek concludes back in Jumla, followed by a scenic flight to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj, leaving trekkers with lasting memories of Nepal’s largest and most beautiful freshwater lake, Rara, and its surrounding pristine wilderness.
