Introduction

The Around Manaslu Trekking offers an extraordinary journey into one of Nepal’s most pristine Himalayan regions, circling the majestic Mount Manaslu (8,163 m / 26,781 ft)—the world’s eighth-highest peak. First summited by a Japanese expedition on 29 May 1956, this region remained restricted for decades due to its proximity to the Tibetan border.

Only in recent years has the Manaslu region opened to trekkers, making it an ideal alternative for those seeking a less crowded and more authentic Himalayan experience. The trek follows remote trails through the high Manaslu Valley and crosses the spectacular Larkya La Pass, linking the region with the classic Annapurna Circuit in Manang.

This remarkable journey unfolds amid towering Himalayan peaks, including Manaslu, Manaslu North, Himal Chuli, Ngadi Chuli, Ganesh Himal to the east, and the Annapurna and Lamjung Himal ranges to the west. The trail winds through traditional farming villages deeply rooted in Tibetan Buddhist culture, sharing close cultural ties with communities across the Tibetan plateau.

Trekkers pass through enchanting forests of rhododendron, magnolia, oak, pine, and fir before entering the dramatic, arid landscapes of the upper Manaslu Valley. Vast glaciers, icy moraines, and sweeping mountain panoramas make this trek one of the most visually rewarding adventures in Nepal.

The trek begins with a scenic overland drive from Kathmandu to the Gorkha district, followed by a gradual ascent from warm river valleys and terraced fields to cool alpine terrain. After reaching Larkya Phedi, a challenging but rewarding climb leads to the summit of Larkya La Pass, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan giants.

Descending into the lush meadows of Bhimthang in the Manang region, the trail follows the Marsyangdi River downstream to Syange. From here, a scenic drive via Besisahar and Lamjung brings you back to Kathmandu, concluding one of Nepal’s most adventurous and unforgettable trekking experiences.
