Introduction
The Lower Dolpo Trek is an adventure into one of Nepal’s wildest and least-traveled regions. This trek explores remote farm villages and high valleys, offering a glimpse into the ancient Bon and Buddhist cultural heritage, with the backdrop of the towering Kagmarra and Dhaulagiri ranges.
The journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu → Nepalgunj → Jhupal, entering the inner Dolpo region. Trekkers pass through medieval-style villages, isolated valleys, and alpine woodlands filled with rare flora and fauna. This remote area is also a habitat for snow leopards and blue sheep.
A key highlight of the trek is the stunning Phoksumdo Lake, near Ringmo village, a turquoise jewel surrounded by high Himalayan peaks. The route continues over Baga-la (5,214 m) and Numa-la (5,238 m) passes, offering panoramic views of the Dolpo landscape, and through charming villages such as Tokyu and Dho-Tarap, with historic monasteries and traditional settlements.
The trek concludes back in Jhupal, followed by a scenic flight to Kathmandu via Nepalgunj, leaving trekkers with unforgettable memories of the Lower Dolpo wilderness.
